Finally, a major boost for healthcare in the Costa Blanca. The Valencian Health Department has launched a selective recruitment process, published in the DOGV, to fill 902 permanent positions for specialists in Health Sciences, designated as hard-to-fill within the Valencian Health System. While this announcement was expected, the key news is that 143 of these positions will go to the Denia Health Department, significantly reinforcing its workforce.
These new positions target critical areas, including Family and Community Medicine, Primary Care Paediatrics, Family and Community Nursing, Obstetric-Gynaecological Nursing, and Mental Health Nursing. Health officials emphasise that this reinforcement will “improve healthcare services at Denia Hospital, specialty centres, and primary care zones across the department.”
Application process
Interested professionals have 15 working days from the DOGV publication to submit their applications online. Following the release of admitted and excluded candidates and a period for appeals, a final list will be published, opening a 10-day period for the selection of workplace.
Successful applicants in Denia will be appointed as permanent staff, with their posts assigned definitively. They will later be able to participate in transfer contests, fill other vacancies, or pursue internal promotion, supporting the retention of specialised talent in the department. Talent loss has been a longstanding issue in the Marina Alta, exacerbated by previous management under Marina Salud.
Scoring criteria
The maximum score in this selection process is 63 points. Up to 30 points can be earned for prior service, and up to 10 points for currently holding a position in the same category and speciality within a hard-to-fill area. Education can contribute up to 15 points, depending on qualifications such as a master’s, doctorate, or accredited courses from the Valencian School of Health or equivalent institutions. Knowledge of Valencian can earn up to 4 points, with additional points for other community languages. All updates and official notices will be published on the Health Department and GVA websites.
Regional distribution
The recruitment also covers other areas struggling with staffing, including Vinaròs, Requena, Elda, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Ontinyent Hospital, and the Ademuz health zone, ensuring fair access to healthcare across the Valencian Community.
Of the 902 positions, 7 per cent are reserved for applicants with disabilities of 33 per cent or higher, with the rest open to general applicants. Hospital specialities account for 450 positions, including Pathology, Anaesthesiology, General Surgery, Traumatology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Urology. Other positions cover primary care, urgent care, home hospitalisation, and specialised nursing services.
The recruitment was approved by the Health Sector Board, supported by union representatives from SATSE and CESMCV-SAE, which represent the majority of health science specialists.
