
The Sindh government has approved the design, scope and financial framework for the construction of a 600-bed tertiary-care hospital in Larkana, describing it as a major healthcare initiative for upper Sindh.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah gave the approval while presiding over a high-level meeting at the CM House on Friday. He directed the planning and development and health departments to proceed with the project, which is expected to be completed within two years. The groundbreaking ceremony has been planned for March 2026, with the first tower scheduled for completion within one year and the second tower to be completed in the following year.

Officials informed the meeting that the hospital project had been initiated on the instructions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, with the aim of providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of upper Sindh. The hospital will be constructed in two phases and will comprise a six-storey structure with a basement.
According to the approved plan, Phase I will include a tower with 288 nursing-care beds, 92 emergency beds and 48 intensive-care beds. Phase II will add another tower with 144 nursing-care beds and 24 ICU beds, bringing the total capacity to 432 nursing-care beds, 92 emergency beds and 72 ICU beds, functioning as a 600-bed hospital.
The facility will offer modern emergency services, outpatient departments, radiology and dialysis units, laboratories, blood bank, endoscopy services, day-surgery units and eight operating theatres. Pre- and post-operative wards, recovery areas, specialised medical and surgical ICUs, rehabilitation services, administrative offices and waiting areas for attendants will also be part of the project.

The basement will house support facilities such as a kitchen, staff dining area, central sterile supply department, laundry, mortuary, medical gas plant, waste-management system, storage areas and loading docks. The total estimated cost of civil works has been put at around Rs3.1 billion, including additional and external development works.
