Eleuthera Wellness Hospital launches daily radiology and imaging services

Bahamas Wellness continued to redefine healthcare on Eleuthera, with the addition of radiologist, Dr. Alexandria Thompson, who was appointed clinical director of imaging services at Eleuthera Wellness Hospital & Clinics.

Thompson, who is joined by a radiology technologist with credentials in advanced imaging and emergency protocols, ensuring immediate access to critical diagnostics for the emergency department, outpatient clinics and specialty services, means Eleuthera Wellness Hospital is now offering full daily radiology and imaging coverage.

Hospital officials said with the additions they are able to offer full daily radiology and imaging coverage and provide around-the-clock care. People they said no longer need to travel off-island for advanced imaging, emergency diagnostics or minimally invasive procedures, with services available daily.

โ€œThis expansion is more than a service upgrade โ€” it is a transformational shift in how healthcare is delivered across The Bahamas,โ€ said Bahamas Wellness founder and CEO Dr. Arlington Lightbourne. โ€œEleuthera Wellness Hospital is now operating at a standard that rivals sophisticated regional centers โ€“ placing Eleuthera at the forefront of medical innovation among Family Islands.โ€

Thompson relocated to Eleuthera to serve the community full-time.

Hospital officials said the doctor brought expertise across diagnostic imaging, emergency radiology, womenโ€™s imaging and image-guided procedures. And that her presence ensured around-the-clock oversight of all radiology functions, enhanced diagnostic accuracy, improved turnaround times, and the establishment of Eleutheraโ€™s first consistently available advanced imaging service line.

In a press release, the hospital said Thompsonโ€™s appointment reflected their strategic mandate โ€” strengthened clinical governance, elevated quality standards, and ensured that Eleutherans have direct access to the same caliber of care available in the worldโ€™s top metropolitan health systems.

Hospital officials said routine and emergency ultrasound, x-rays, and echocardiograms were available daily; mammograms were available Monday to Friday, while routine and emergency CT scans will be available daily starting in January 2026, providing fast turnaround imaging for trauma, stroke evaluation, abdominal emergencies and more.

Also available from January they said will be invasive image-guided procedures, such as breast and soft tissue biopsies and other diagnostics. And that the previously needed off-island referral could now be completed in Eleuthera, reducing delays in diagnosis and eliminating unnecessary travel burdens.

โ€œBahamas Wellness Health System remains steadfast in its mission: to ensure that every resident and visitor on Eleuthera has access to timely, safe and world-class healthcare โ€“ without leaving the island. This advancement in imaging brings us one step closer to that promise,โ€ said Lightbourne.

Bahamas Wellness opened the first hospital in a Family Island at its central Eleuthera location in October and now maintains extended hours for urgent care at the same location, 24/7 hours for emergencies and hospital admissions and operates clinics in Spanish Wells, Rock Sound and Lower Bogue in Eleuthera and in New Providence.
