Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6 virtually inaugurated the 220-bedded Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Surat, alongside other development projects valued at Rs 18,800 crore from the Surat Indoor Stadium. This event marks a significant advancement in the Government’s ongoing efforts to provide quality healthcare for the organised workforce, according to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

A separate ceremony held at the ESIC Hospital premises was attended by the Director General of ESIC, key employers, senior officials, and members of the public. Attendees witnessed a live broadcast of the Prime Minister’s address. The event also featured the felicitation of construction workers who built the hospital and the direct disbursement of cash benefits to ESIC beneficiaries, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of all workers.

The newly inaugurated hospital, constructed on an 8.60-acre site at a cost of Rs 216 crore, will serve approximately 320,000 insured persons and around 1.216 million beneficiaries in the region. Situated 20 minutes from Surat Railway Station, the facility provides a comprehensive range of specialities, including General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Oncology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Dental care. These services are supported by advanced Radiology, Pathology, and 24-hour Emergency services.

This inauguration further strengthens Gujarat’s extensive ESIC healthcare infrastructure, which began in October 1964 and now covers about 2.004 million insured persons across 34 districts. The Surat Sub-Regional Office manages services for workers in Surat, Navsari, and Valsad districts.

The opening of this hospital underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of the working class and the enhancement of the healthcare system in the Surat region.
