AI and job automation: Entry-level roles contract as demand for experienced workers increases

AI founding father, Geoffrey Hinton, famously said in 2016 that we should stop training radiologists. Almost 10 years later, his prediction that AI would entirely automate radiology could not be more wrong.

And yet radiology is also a field that has incorporated AI extensively, to the great benefit of patients and radiologists. More than 750 applications of AI approved by the FDA (out of about 1000 in total to mid-2025) have been in radiology. Hinton wasnโ€™t wrong: profound changes are happening in that field. But itโ€™s not job losses.
