KUWAIT: A medical team at Al-Adan Hospital, affiliated with the Ministry of Health, has successfully treated a Kuwaiti woman in her forties who was suffering from a severe bile duct obstruction caused by a rare congenital anatomical abnormality. The Ministry of Health described the achievement as a significant medical milestone that reflects the continued advancement of specialized healthcare services and the growing expertise of Kuwait’s medical professionals. In a statement, the ministry said the medical team was led by Dr Yousef Al-Tawala, senior specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, with the participation of Dr Mahdi Abbas from interventional radiology, along with other specialized physicians. The ministry explained that the complex intervention was successfully completed, resulting in the patient’s full recovery. Her liver functions and enzyme levels returned to normal, and she was discharged from the hospital in stable condition.
The ministry said the successful treatment highlights the advanced capabilities of Kuwaiti medical teams in the field of therapeutic endoscopy and demonstrates Al-Adan Hospital’s capacity to manage rare and complex medical cases using the latest internationally recognized practices. It added that such achievements contribute to the localization of specialized medical services, improve the quality of healthcare and allow patients to receive advanced treatment inside Kuwait. Dr Al-Tawala said that since the beginning of the year, Al-Adan Hospital has performed more than 120 advanced endoscopic procedures, in addition to providing a wide range of specialized services. These services include endoscopic ultrasound examinations of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts, the placement of therapeutic stents, and double-balloon endoscopy procedures for examining the small intestine. He noted that these highly specialized procedures are carried out regularly at the hospital due to the availability of qualified national medical expertise and advanced technological capabilities. – KUNA
