Cleveland Clinic Akron General resumes ambulance service after water main break

Cleveland Clinic Akron General began accepting ambulances again Sunday following a water main break that disrupted emergency services over the weekend, WKYC reports.

A 12-inch water line in front of the emergency room broke just before 4 a.m. Saturday, according to city officials. The break forced the hospital to divert ambulances and cancel all outpatient cardiac, radiation oncology, and radiology appointments scheduled for Saturday at the downtown campus.

Hospital officials said the emergency department is no longer on diversion, though cleanup continues and some services remain affected, according to WKYC.

The emergency department stayed open to patients who arrived on their own throughout the disruption.

However, the hospital was closed to general visitation Saturday and remained closed Sunday, though the Cleveland Clinic noted exceptions were being made, WKYC said.

All admitted patients continued to receive care during the service disruption, hospital officials stated.

The emergency departments at Akron Generalโ€™s health and wellness centers in Bath, Green and Stow were not affected and remained operational throughout the weekend.

City officials reported no other water problems in downtown Akron.
