Eleuthera Wellness Hospital expands with echocardiogram and virtual cardiogram services

Eleuthera Wellness Hospital’s latest expansion has seen the launch of echocardiogram and virtual cardiology consultation services, which means patients are able to receive diagnostic services in Eleuthera rather than having to leave the island.

The new services were launched on Sunday, May 3.

Dr. Arlington Lightbourne, Bahamas Wellness founder, said echocardiograms can make such a difference in diagnosing issues with the heart, giving a patient the best chance to respond early rather than when a more severe or serious problem develops.

“People may not be able to make the journey to Nassau or the US for financial reasons, or because they feel they cannot leave work or their responsibilities, but it is a lot easier to be tested at home in Eleuthera where we can diagnose – and potentially catch – an issue early on when the chances for a successful outcome are greatest.”

Lightbourne said virtual cardiology consultation services will be conducted through a partnership with Bahamas Wellness and Lyford Cay Hospital’s founder, Dr. Dean Tseretopoulous. And all services are available by appointment, either by patient request or physician referral. He said services provided on an emergency basis will be available through the emergency room of Eleuthera Wellness Hospital.

“We have committed to making sure we are the leaders in emergency care on Eleuthera,” said Lightbourne.

The new offerings came at the Palmetto Point facility after their recent addition of expanded services in radiology and imaging.

“This is our mission – to make sure people have access to the very best services, world-class treatment in a Family Island setting. Leaving the island means more cost, more delays, more inconvenience – and not everyone has the ability to do so. We can provide those services here at home, and this is the latest step in our continuing goal to expand the range of treatment available to islanders and visitors.”

The hospital opened in October 2025 and maintains extended hours for urgent care at its Eleuthera location, as well as 24/7 hours for emergencies and hospital admissions. It also operates clinics in Spanish Wells, Rock Sound, and Lower Bogue in Eleuthera, as well as in New Providence.

Radiology and imaging services have previously been launched in Eleuthera, offering daily radiology and imaging coverage.

Walk-in urgent care and diagnostic services, including comprehensive laboratory testing, x-ray, ultrasound, CT scans, and other daily imaging are available every day from 8 am-10 pm, including weekends and holidays.

The hospital offers a 24/7 emergency room, two fully-staffed ambulances and agreements with two air ambulance partners, ensuring rapid transfer to New Providence or the United States when medically necessary.

To safeguard patients and staff, the hospital follows a strict 10pm–8am safety readiness protocol, requiring all after-hours patients to call the 24/7 emergency line at 242-819-SICK (7425) before arrival. This allows the emergency team to prepare and deliver the highest standard of safe, coordinated care.
